Our Community Life in General

Surroundings

Edgerton is replete with farm land, producing wheat, soybeans, corn, oats and alfalfa.  The area's farming industry produces Ohio's highest quality dairy products, beef cattle, sheep and hogs.  Edgerton is also home to several successful corporations.  The alliance between our community and our industry is unparalleled.  As a result, everyone in Edgerton strives to help their community grow and prosper.

Climate

Edgerton enjoys all four seasons.  Spring is delightful, usually arriving in April when everything begins to bloom.  Summers are wonderfully warm.  Fall is welcomed around mid-September or early October and winter makes its entrance usually after Thanksgiving.  A white Christmas is almost guaranteed.  The seasons are pleasant, not too hot or cold, with just the right amount of rain, making it great for your year-round recreational activities.

Media and Communications

Edgerton is served by WQCT-AM and WBNO-FM radio of Bryan/Montpelier.  Television stations from Bowling Green, Lima, Toledo, and Fort Wayne can readily be received with just an antenna, or residents can use the Adelphia Cable TV system or satellite dishes for additional selection.

Edgerton has its own weekly newspaper, The Edgerton Earth, as well as access to The County-Line weekly shopper and three area daily newspapers, The Bryan Times, The Toledo Blade and The Ft. Wayne Journal Gazette.

The Edgerton Branch of the Williams County Public Library provides residents with best selling books, magazines, newspapers, videos and audio books.  Over 3 million items are available for borrowing through the library’s online catalog.  The library also provides special programs and activities for all ages, from toddlers to senior citizens.  For more information and to find out what’s happening at the library, visit their website at www.williamsco.lib.oh.us.

Financial Support and Commercial Lending

Edgerton, Ohio is served locally by branches of two major financial institutions with combined assets of billions of dollars.  Each has full-service accommodations including commercial loans.

Local Government, Police and Emergency Services

Local government issues are decided by an elected mayor, a village council of six and a village administrator.  The village administrator is employed by the village.  Police protection is provided by full-time officers, assisted by several part-time officers and a K-9 unit.  The volunteer fire department consists of 25 men, five auxiliaries and five radio-equipped trucks.  One ambulance, manned by volunteers, provides emergency medical service in association with the Williams County EMS system.  Village government is supported by local taxes and a small village income tax.

Education

Both public and parochial elementary schools, as well as public middle and senior high schools, are located in the village.  The Edgerton School District has an estimated attendance of 750 students.  The school district also participates with the Four County Vocational High School (about 25 miles east of Edgerton) which offers 28 specialized vocational courses to selected high school juniors and seniors.  An adjoining campus offers post-high and continuing education courses.

Other advanced schooling can be found at Defiance College (Defiance, OH), The University of Toledo (Toledo, OH), The Medical College of Ohio (Toledo, OH), Northwest Technical College, Owens Technical College (Toledo), Bowling Green State University (Bowling Green, OH), Tri-State College (Angola, IN) and the Indiana University - Purdue University Extension (Ft. Wayne, IN).  Sunnyside School brings quality education to mentally and physically disadvantaged children, while as adults they can learn and work at Quadco Rehabilitation Center.  Edgerton also features nursery school and day care centers at Charlotte's Web Preschool as well as three other facilities in Bryan, just a few miles away.

Recreation

What we don't have locally, our surrounding area has.  If you are into hunting and fishing, licenses are available at Nye and Nye Hardware, or M & W Carryout.  If golf is your game of choice, there are golf courses in Hicksville, Stryker, and Edon - all within easy driving distance.  Roller skaters can head for Montpelier, OH or Auburn, IN which are both just a few minutes away.  Bryan has a movie theatre for first run movies and Edgerton stores have plenty of video tape and DVD movies available for rental.
