Our Community Life in GeneralSurroundingsEdgerton is replete with farm land, producing wheat, soybeans, corn, oats and alfalfa. The area's farming industry produces Ohio's highest quality dairy products, beef cattle, sheep and hogs. Edgerton is also home to several successful corporations. Spring is delightful, usually arriving in April when everything begins to bloom. Summers are wonderfully warm. Fall is welcomed around mid-September or early October and winter makes its entrance usually after Thanksgiving. A white Christmas is almost guaranteed. The seasons are pleasant, not too hot or cold, with just the right amount of rain, making it great for your year-round recreational activities.Media and CommunicationsEdgerton is served by WQCT-AM and WBNO-FM radio of Bryan/Montpelier. Television stations from Bowling Green, Lima, Toledo, and Fort Wayne can readily be received with just an antenna, or residents can use the Adelphia Cable TV system or satellite dishes for additional selection.Edgerton has its own weekly newspaper, The Edgerton Earth, as well as access to The County-Line weekly shopper and three area daily newspapers, The Bryan Times, The Toledo Blade and The Ft. Wayne Journal Gazette.The Edgerton Branch of the Williams County Public Library provides residents with best selling books, magazines, newspapers, videos and audio books. Each has full-service accommodations including commercial loans.Local Government, Police and Emergency ServicesLocal government issues are decided by an elected mayor, a village council of six and a village administrator. The village administrator is employed by the village. Police protection is provided by full-time officers, assisted by several part-time officers and a K-9 unit. The volunteer fire department consists of 25 men, five auxiliaries and five radio-equipped trucks. One ambulance, manned by volunteers, provides emergency medical service in association with the Williams County EMS system. Village government is supported by local taxes and a small village income tax.EducationBoth public and parochial elementary schools, as well as public middle and senior high schools, are located in the village. The Edgerton School District has an estimated attendance of 750 students. The school district also participates with the Four County Vocational High School (about 25 miles east of Edgerton) which offers 28 specialized vocational courses to selected high school juniors and seniors. An adjoining campus offers post-high and continuing education courses. |
